Glycolic Acid Peel
20%, 30%, 40%, 50% Solutions
A glycolic acid peel is a superficial chemical peel that exfoliates the top layer of skin and is often used to treat acne. This peel can reduce the appearance of fine lines and blemishes, improve skin texture, and even out skin tone. It can also treat conditions like melasma and vitiligo.
Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that penetrates the skin easily to break down sebum and exfoliate skin cells. It has been used as a chemical peel for many years by dermatologists and has been shown to be safe and effective for Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV. The results of glycolic peels tend to improve with repeated treatments and often a package of chemical peel sessions is recommended.
Although a glycolic acid peel is considered a superficial peel it is also available in multiple concentrations that can affect the intensity of the peel. Through altering the concentration and the amount of time the acid is applied different intensities can be obtained.
