Lidocaine 10%, Prilocaine 10%, Tetracaine 4%
Topical Anesthetic

aka Profound Gel, Tricaine Blue, DepBlu

Dental Gel

Profound gel is a combination of three active ingredients: lidocaine 10%, prilocaine 10%, and tetracaine 4%. This topical anesthetic gel is often used as an alternative to local anesthetic injectable solutions. The combined anesthetic ingredients make it more effective than any individual topical anesthetic used alone. Profound gel lasts longer and has a faster onset than commercially available topical anesthetics.

Profound Gel Applications

Compounded topical anesthetics for dentistry like Profound gel are used for a variety of procedures including:

  • Scaling and root planing
  • Soft tissue and palatal procedures
  • Pre-injection numbing
  • Placement of orthodontic Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs)
  • Taking impressions and intra-oral radiographs

This topical is available in five different flavors in an extra-thick gel and is packaged in plastic squeeze bottles (oral syringe and adapter included). We also offer this gel with phenylephrine 2% to increase the duration of effectiveness and reduce systemic absorption.

Dental Ointment

This topical anesthetic is also available in a thick plasticized ointment base. This ointment can be applied with a Q-Tip or micro-brush to the dried mucosal surface prior to the procedure. It’s a good choice for pre-injection numbing. We also offer this ointment with phenylephrine 2% to prevent bleeding.
