Salicylic Acid

A salicylic acid peel is considered a superficial peel and is used to treat acne, rosacea, sun damage, visibility of pores, and blemishes. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that is frequently used in acne products and is particularly effective for blackheads. It unclogs pores, clarifies skin, and also has some anti-inflammatory properties.
The positive effects on the complexion from salicylic acid peels become more apparent with repeated treatments. Multiple peels are recommended for treating acne and regular maintenance visits may be required. Salicylic acid peels are suitable for most skin types and are generally well-tolerated.
The different strengths of salicylic acid solution can produce peels of varying intensity. There are also peel solutions that include other ingredients along with salicylic acid. A Jessner’s Peel is a type of salicylic acid peel that also includes lactic acid and resorcinol.
