Ketoprofen 20%, Cyclobenzaprine 2% Cream

This TMJ pain cream is frequently prescribed by dentists for use after certain oral procedures. Pain relievers with anti-inflammatory properties and muscle relaxants are the most frequently used medications for this type of joint pain. Ketoprofen is an NSAID that relieves pain and reduces inflammation. It offers greater concentration in the area of pain when applied topically compared to when taken orally. Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant that can also help with TMJ pain.

For some oral procedures, it is necessary for a patient’s mouth to remain open for a long period of time. This can cause pain in the joints of the mouth. A topical pain cream can help reduce the discomfort that may come from overuse of certain joints. Other possible causes of TMJ disorders include injuries to the jaw and chronic teeth grinding.

Patients experiencing TMJ pain may feel aching along their jaw and around their ear, pain throughout their face, and difficulty chewing with a locking of the joint. Some individuals may hear a clicking sound when they try to chew. A cream with ketoprofen and cyclobenzaprine may be used to relieve the discomfort until the joint returns to normal. Often this cream is prescribed to be used for a few days after a procedure but can be prescribed for longer (2-3 weeks) if symptoms are more severe.
