Testosterone is mainly a male hormone but it is naturally found in both men and women regardless of age. Supplementation with testosterone is used to treat hormone deficiencies in men who have a hormone imbalance as detected through a blood test, although there is some debate as to what the ideal reference range should be. It may also be prescribed for women in combination with other hormones like estrogen and progesterone to improve libido.
Testosterone Cream for Men
Testosterone is most often associated with males as it is responsible for many male sex characteristics. With age, levels of testosterone start to decline in men which can lead to fatigue, decreased libido, decreased muscle mass, metabolic issues, and depression. It is often prescribed to improve libido, stamina, and general health in men as levels naturally decline. For many men it is able to improve libidio and energy and affect muscle mass, fat distribution, and strength. Testosterone cream is safer than an oral supplement as it has less risk of gastrointestinal effects. The cream is usually applied to dry, clear skin in the morning and can last up to 24 hours.
Testosterone Cream for Women
Women may also be prescribed testosterone cream in lower dosages than those given to men. For women, this hormone combined with estrogen can help improve libido.
